Introducing the ATD 2-Step System™

Our product increases dairy farm sustainability and flexibility around one of the biggest jobs on a dairy – putting the right nutrition and moisture where and
when it is needed by separating manure nutrients from water.

In 1992, ATD Manure Systems Inc. was created with the mission of ensuring the sustainability of the family farm.  Dairy farms were growing in size but inhibited by lack of acreage and water.  ‘Manure Management’ was the one facet that offered the most challenges.    

That was over 30 years ago, time well spent learning about the ever-changing offerings of equipment, claims of ‘guaranteed’ return of investments that were not supported but eagerly accepted by buyers in other countries.  The rush was to ‘sell’ without a solid understanding of the problems to be solved and the costs of solving them.  There were ‘trailblazers’, ‘award winners’ and ‘pioneers’ and some of them left legacies that are hard to forget.  

During those years it was becoming increasingly evident that truly effective manure management had to be cost effective, scalable, weatherproof, prompt, with a small footprint and capable of integration to improve existing farm operations.  It had to be delivered with the expertise of world class suppliers that support their product at a cost commensurate with ATD’s business model.  

ATD would become the distributor of ‘custom designs’ that make each Canadian dairy farm more sustainable.  

Result – ATD’s 2 Step system™. 

Step 1 will capture all the solids at the barn, output targets 30% D.M., low TSS.

Step 2 collects and concentrates the dissolved nutrients to produce optional quantities of ‘animal quality’ potable water to be returned to the barn, the remainder stored in the lagoon.  For example, the recycled water could replace wash and dilution water for a reduction of 34% or additionally, replace one-third of drinking water for a reduction of 54%.  That reduction could supply a herd increase of 52% with no change in current water usage.  Lagoons will no longer require agitation before pumpout and as recycling increases lagoons can be filled from any water source whenever it is available.  

It will earn its return from the reduction in labor and fuel spreading costs, increased lagoon capacity while providing the means to meet tightening water regulations, providing a path go grow and adapt to new challenges to water supply.
